Choosing Where to Live
In Dubai, where you live and where your children go to school are closely linked decisions. School placement can be competitive, and commute times in peak traffic can be significant. Planning both together is strongly recommended.
School Proximity Strategy
Al Barsha has the highest school density in Dubai (50+ schools within the area), making it the most flexible residential choice for families who have not yet decided on a school. Dubai Hills and Jumeirah also offer strong school access. Arabian Ranches has fewer nearby options but JESS Arabian Ranches is on-site.
Peak Hour Traffic
Dubai's school run coincides with morning rush hour (7:30–9:00am) and afternoon pickup (2:30–4:00pm). A school that appears 15 minutes away in off-peak conditions can take 35–45 minutes in peak traffic. Use our commute time estimates as a guide, but always test the route at school run times before committing.
Villa vs Apartment
Families with young children typically prefer villa communities for outdoor space and community feel. Arabian Ranches, Dubai Hills, Jumeirah, and Emirates Hills are primarily villa communities. Dubai Marina, JVC, and JLT are predominantly apartment communities — suitable for smaller families or those prioritising urban convenience.
School Bus Coverage
Most schools offer bus transport covering major residential areas. Bus routes are published by schools before the academic year. If you live in a newer development, confirm bus coverage before signing a lease. Bus fees are typically AED 3,000–8,000 per year depending on distance.
